Blow to drug trafficking in the province of Alicante. The National Police have dismantled a hydroponic marijuana cultivation lab in a house in Altea and arrested the two residents, a man and a woman aged 31 and 33, both Spanish nationals, as alleged perpetrators of a crime against public health.
The investigation began after analysing various neighbourhood reports claiming that marijuana was being cultivated in one of the area's houses. This cultivation disrupted normal community life, causing "discomfort among neighbours due to the strong odour emanating from the house," police sources confirm.
After several checks on the investigated residence, the officers carried out operations to identify the residents. Through surveillance and tracking, they confirmed suspicions: the house contained a marijuana cultivation operation for subsequent processing and sale on the illicit market.
To proceed with the intervention and dismantling of the marijuana plant cultivation inside the investigated residence, the police requested a search warrant from the court. Following the inspection, investigators seized 1,105 grams of marijuana buds and 106 plants, each 1.50 metres tall, found in a room equipped with a sophisticated hydroponic system and all necessary infrastructure for plant cultivation and growth.
The police operation also led to the arrest of two individuals, a man and a woman, as alleged perpetrators of a crime against public health. The National Police encourage citizens to help eradicate such plantations by reporting them via antidroga@policia.es or through the website www.policia.es, where there is a specific section for this purpose.
