Storm 'Martinho' is giving the province of Alicante a break this weekend. As it moves across the peninsula, it has decided to offer the region a respite after a week of heavy rain.
The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) forecasts a calm situation for this Sunday, March 23, the first of the newly arrived spring, in the province of Alicante.
For now, the city of Alicante wakes up to clear skies and the sun shining over the Mediterranean. Temperatures will range between ten and 18 degrees throughout the day.
However, the state agency predicts that a cloud episode will appear around noon and persist throughout the afternoon in the city of Alicante.
Additionally, it announces possible episodes of light rain entering the night this Sunday, with a 45% chance of precipitation in the provincial capital.
Whether it rains or not, clouds will remain overnight, leading to a Monday with overcast skies. The sun will peek through during the early hours of the day, with temperatures between 10 and 20 degrees.
Aemet also forecasts a brief storm episode on the afternoon of Monday, March 24, with an 80% chance of precipitation and the snow level at 1,300 meters altitude.
The rest of the week in Alicante will feature clear and sunny skies, according to Aemet's forecast, with another episode of showers expected this Tuesday, with a 65% chance of precipitation.
The city of Alcoi wakes up this Sunday with temperatures between five and 14 degrees, averaging ten. The sun also shines on the province's mountains, with an eye on the arrival of clouds in the afternoon. The snow level remains at 1,300 meters.
Temperatures will be higher in the capital of Marina Alta, with an average of 17 degrees in Dénia. Clear skies during the first half of this Sunday and some clouds in the afternoon, with no risk of rain or showers. The respite is felt on the northern coast of Alicante, which accumulated 493 litres per square meter last Tuesday.
More intense showers could fall during the night this Sunday in Elche, with a 50% chance of precipitation according to Aemet. The capital of Bajo Vinalopó wakes up between eight and 17 degrees, with clear skies waiting to be covered by clouds.
This period of respite could be disrupted, however, in Vega Baja. Aemet's forecast announces showers during the afternoon in Orihuela with a 50% chance of precipitation, increasing to 65% during the night. For now, average temperatures are at 17 degrees with cloudy skies.
