During the Christmas season, thousands of journeys are made by car. Therefore, in addition to being cautious not to drink before driving and ensuring we have all necessary items in case of snow, it's also important to be aware of the routes we will be travelling on.

According to RACE, the section with the highest risk of serious accidents in Spain is on the N-6 in Galicia, between kilometre points 517.1 and 528.5.

The other high-risk sections are located on the N-323 (Andalusia), N-631 (Castile and León), N-345 (Murcia), N-432 (Andalusia), N-502 (Castile and León), N-634 (Cantabria), N-340 (Valencian Community), and the N-642 (Galicia).

Catalonia is the autonomous community with the highest proportion of roads rated as high risk (11% of the roads), followed by Castile and León (9.9%).

If you are driving this Christmas, exercise extreme caution! The DGT will be monitoring road user behaviour over the coming weeks with its human and technical resources: fixed and mobile speed control radars, as well as helicopters, drones, cameras, and unmarked vans to check for mobile phone use and seatbelt compliance.

Finally, there will also be increased speed and alcohol checks as a measure to prevent road accidents.
