Two men manipulated a sports betting machine in a café in Elda, amassing over €15,000 in just four days through fraudulent bets. This was their modus operandi, producing numerous winning tickets to cash in at various gaming halls. They are charged with alleged crimes of continuous fraud, robbery with force and belonging to a criminal group.

The National Police have arrested these two men, one of whom is the owner of the Elda café where the machine was located. The café owner permitted the manipulation of the device to gain substantial profits.

To execute the fraud, they subtly forced the collection drawer, inserting €50 notes to withdraw them repeatedly, continuously repeating the operation. This generated numerous bets worth thousands of euros, yielding significant cash profits.

The investigation began when a betting shop manager reported that one of their machines had been tampered with. Sources close to the investigation explain that the company lost €36,000 due to the modified device. Moreover, these bets were legally cashed by other customers, unaware of the manipulation.

Upon learning of these events, investigators focused on a high volume of bets placed in a short period, as well as their cashing in gaming halls in Elda and Benidorm. These bets were always placed from a café in the town of Elda.

After detailing the movements, investigators visited these halls and analysed numerous data, identifying the two suspects, one being the café owner who allegedly allowed the machine to be tampered with.

The detainees, after police proceedings, have been brought before the duty magistrates in Elda. Due to the large number of fraudulent bets made, investigators do not rule out further arrests, as they believe the criminal group may have used the same modus operandi nationwide.
