The new Special Plan for the Port, which the Alicante Port Authority is drafting to integrate the Congress Centre into the coastal front, will allow the new headquarters of the Chamber of Commerce in Panoramis to open fully. This was announced this Friday by the president of the chamber organisation, Carlos Baño, following the Conference at the Business Club by Iván Espinosa de los Monteros.

The Chamber of Commerce had planned to open its new headquarters in Panoramis, which includes a Business School, last April. However, the project is incompatible with municipal urban planning regulations, according to City Council technicians, which has led to the suspension of the works. The disagreement between regulations over the use of a terrace on the top floor has been the subject of discussion between Urban Planning technicians and the Chamber of Commerce. This has prevented the inauguration within the deadlines set by the board of directors.

To avoid further delays in the opening, the board of directors of the Chamber of Commerce has decided to open the headquarters without using the aforementioned upper terrace. A part that was built 25 years ago, when Panoramis was created. In fact, in that loft, Baño explained, is where the projectors of the old cinemas of the shopping centre were located. "We haven't built anything else," he stated to the gathered businesspeople.

By renouncing now, the chamber president understands, there will be no problems to start the activities of the Business School that the Chamber of Commerce has with CEU. It will be "soon," so it could even be for the next academic year.

The Chamber, however, does not completely abandon the use of the entire surface of its new headquarters. The Special Plan for the Port will accommodate this terrace and allow it to open for activities as well, Baño explained. This urban planning document will redefine Alicante's coastal strip and will allow the future Congress Palace to be integrated. It is expected to be completed within a year so that the Provincial Council can tender the works for the new infrastructure and begin the construction.

The chamber president wanted to thank the entire board of directors for their "support" in this "struggle." In comparison, Baño pointed out other buildings such as the Casa Mediterráneo headquarters, "which does not have a license and no one has closed it."
