The Spanish National Team Returns to the Province: Match Scheduled at Martínez Valero on October 11

Spain's National Football Team is set to return to the province of Alicante. Lamine Yamal, Nico Williams, and their teammates will step onto the province's soil for the first time with La Roja on October 11 at the Martínez Valero Stadium in Elche against Georgia. This has been confirmed by the Royal Spanish Football Federation in a first division stadium after Elche CF ascended to the top tier of national football.

The Spain-Georgia match will be the third qualifying game for the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in Mexico, the USA, and Canada.

Spain will return to Elche seven years after their last match in the city. It was on September 11, 2018, in an official Nations League match against Croatia, which ended in a 6-0 victory with goals from Ñíguez, Asensio, Rodrigo, Ramos, Isco, and an own goal by Jalinic.

In total, Spain has played six matches at the Martínez Valero. The first was a friendly against Belgium in preparation for the 1986 World Cup, resulting in a 3-0 victory. All matches have ended in victory for the Spanish team, with a record of 17 goals scored and only one conceded. Elche seems to bring luck to the national team.

The Elche CF stadium, which was a sub-venue for the 1982 Spain World Cup, first hosted the national team on February 19, 1986, in a friendly match against Belgium, resulting in a clear 3-0 victory with goals from Emilio Butragueño, Julio Salinas, and Antonio Maceda. That victory served as preparation for the 1986 Mexico World Cup.

Prior to the Elche fixture, during the September international window, Spain will face their first two qualifying matches away. On Thursday, the 4th, against Bulgaria in Sofia, and on Sunday, the 7th, in Konya against Turkey.
