Spanish Chef José Andrés will receive the highest civilian honor in the United States, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, from outgoing President Joe Biden this Saturday.

The medal is awarded to individuals "who have made exemplary contributions to the prosperity, values, or security of the United States, world peace, or other significant societal, public, or private endeavors," as the White House has noted in an announcement previewed by American media.

Joining José Andrés will be 18 other notable figures from politics and culture, including footballer Lionel Messi, actors Michael J. Fox and Denzel Washington, basketball player Earvin 'Magic' Johnson, singer Bono, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and financier George Soros.
