EÓN Horneo Alicante has taken a giant leap towards their dream of ascending to ASOBAL with a last-second victory (30-29) against Caserío Ciudad Real, who came close to securing a point at a sold-out Pitiu Rochel. However, a goal by Ander Torriko with five seconds remaining tipped the balance in favour of the Alicante side, placing EÓN in an excellent position to make the leap to the elite. in an unbeatable position to make the leap to the elite.
The match was extremely close, with the score tied at 15-15 at halftime. After the break, the game continued in the same vein, with no clear dominator. The intensity of the match increased alongside the rising noise levels in the stands. The Pitiu was the oxygen needed for Latorre's team to maintain a high pace, especially with a solid defence.
A defence led by an outstanding Lorenzo in goal kept the score level and gave wings to the team, allowing James and Torriko to become unstoppable for the opposition.
Although Latorre's team was leading, some minor errors in play and, above all, seven-metre penalties, gave life to Caserío. Just as the match reached the 55th minute, they repeated the script of the first half to level the score.
Maximum equality remained with 20 seconds left and EÓN in possession. Here, the most perfect ending to the story unfolded. A conclusion that closed a circle, with Ander Torriko donning the mantle of a deity that night, stopping time with an unstoppable shot, keeping EÓN closer to the summit (30-29).
With this result, Horneo EÓN Alicante remains at the top of the standings with 45 points, achieving a three-point lead over Caserío, second in the table, with three matches and six points remaining in the season.
