A man in his 30s was shot dead this afternoon by a national police officer after ramming his vehicle into a patrol car on a street in the Madrid neighbourhood of El Pilar, according to a spokesperson from the Madrid Police Headquarters.
The incident occurred shortly before 2:00 PM this Wednesday on Sinesio Delgado Street, in the Fuencarral-El Pardo district. During a police operation, as part of an investigation, a patrol car overtook a vehicle, and its driver, the sole occupant, responded by ramming it and attempting to flee the scene.
One of the officers then ordered him to stop, and when he ignored the command, the officer fired a shot, hitting the driver in the chest. Paramedics from Samur-Civil Protection arrived at the scene, treated the man, and transported him to La Paz Hospital in Madrid, where he died around 4:00 PM from his injuries.
At present, the exact age, nationality, and criminal record of the deceased are unknown, although the circumstances suggest possible involvement in criminal activity. The area where the incident occurred, at the junction with Finisterre Street, has been closed to traffic, and officers from the Scientific Police and UDYCO are there analysing the vehicle and the events.
