Sevilla has dismissed Xavi García Pimienta as coach and has already found a replacement in Joaquín Caparrós. The Nervionense club decided to dismiss the Catalan after losing four consecutive matches, the last one on Friday against Valencia. Las Palmas' victory in Getafe has placed the relegation spots seven points away, and alarms have been raised in Nervión.
García Pimienta arrived last summer at Sevilla's bench with a one-year contract and an optional year. Interestingly, in September, when results were not the best and to silence criticism, the board decided to renew his contract for another season. This will mean that Sevilla will have to pay García Pimienta for the remainder of the league as well as that extra campaign.
And as the saying goes, 'The king is dead, long live the king.' Joaquín Caparrós becomes Sevilla's coach for the fourth time in his career. The first time was in 2001 when he managed to promote the team and then stayed until 2005. In 2018 and 2019, he finished the championship urgently to secure European qualification.
