A multi-vehicle accident on the A-7 has left seven people injured, including two minors. The incident occurred at kilometre 537, near El Salar, between Albatera and Elche, necessitating a one-hour road closure, according to the Directorate-General for Traffic (DGT).
The accident happened around 14:43 when several vehicles collided near El Salar. Seven people were injured, including two minors aged seven and 14, as detailed by the Emergency Information and Coordination Centre (Cicu). Among the injured are four women aged between 21 and 43 and a 21-year-old man.
A SAMU unit and three basic life support ambulances were dispatched to the scene, treating the injured for contusions and cervical sprains before transporting them to the General Hospital of Elche, Vinalopó Hospital, and Vega Baja Hospital in Orihuela.
The accident forced the closure of the A-7 towards Elche for an hour. The DGT issued a notice for alternative routes to bypass the section, causing heavy traffic on the motorway during the peak travel period.
Due to the traffic, diversions were set up at the exit located at kilometre 541 of the A-7, as well as via the N-340 to Albatera. The partial reopening of the motorway, specifically the left lane, was announced at 16:35, easing traffic congestion somewhat.
Fatal Accident
On Sunday morning, emergency services reported another accident, this time fatal. A 30-year-old motorcyclist died in Castalla, marking the second fatal accident this weekend, following another crash between two motorcycles in Orihuela that resulted in another casualty.
