Seven Cyclists Injured After Being Hit by an Octogenarian in Palma

The driver tested negative for alcohol consumption

Seven cyclists have been injured after being struck by a car driven by an 89-year-old man in the municipality of Palma.

The incident occurred around 10:30 am on Monday at kilometre 9.300 of the Ma-19A towards Llucmajor, according to the Civil Guard Command in the Balearic Islands.

The octogenarian was travelling in the same direction as the cyclists when, under circumstances still under investigation, he collided with six cyclists.

Medical personnel from SAMU 061 arrived at the scene and attended to the seven injured individuals, all of whom suffered multiple contusions. While one was discharged at the scene, six others required hospitalisation.

Four of them were taken to the Rotger Clinic, and the remaining two were transferred to the Palmaplanas Clinic. According to IbSalut, all are in a less serious condition.

Officers from the Civil Guard Traffic Group have taken over the investigation to determine the circumstances of the accident.

The 89-year-old driver tested negative for alcohol at the scene.
