Renault CEO Luca de Meo has published the "Sentimental Dictionary of the Automobile," a book set to arrive in Spain from April 30. Released under the Deusto publishing label, part of Grupo Planeta, the work will also be available in eBook format, both in Spain and Latin American countries.
Following its success in France with the book's release in October 2024, Luca de Meo now launches the Spanish version. In this work, structured in alphabetically ordered entries, the author shares his passion for the automotive world through fascinating anecdotes, curious facts, and testimonies from prominent entrepreneurs, visionary designers, and legendary drivers.
Additionally, it offers reflections on the present and future of an industry that has shown an extraordinary ability to adapt to major crises.
The royalties from the Dictionary will be donated to the Candelita Association, which helps women at risk of exclusion obtain a driving license, thereby improving their employment prospects. This initiative aligns with previous actions in France, where the book's proceeds are used to assist young people in disadvantaged situations to obtain their driving permits.
Born in Milan, Italy, in 1967, Luca de Meo graduated from the Luigi Bocconi Commercial University with a degree in business administration. With over thirty years of experience in groups such as Fiat, Toyota, Volkswagen, and Seat, he has led innovation strategies in the sector. Currently, he is the CEO of Renault Group and was previously the president of the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA). Passionate about the history of the automobile, in "Sentimental Dictionary of the Automobile," he shares his unique vision of the culture and evolution of the automotive world.
Luca de Meo fell in love with cars in December 1973, at the age of seven, after a ride in a Lancia Fulvia. Since then, his life has been inseparable from the automotive world, where he has worked for decades at Fiat, Volkswagen, and Seat, and is currently the CEO of Renault Group.
"Sentimental Dictionary of the Automobile" is also a moving portrait of the car's role in people's lives, its presence in popular culture (including a chapter dedicated to Route 66 and another focused on roundabouts), and even its influence on urban planning over the last century and a half. The work also features contributions from notable figures in the sector, such as Stefano Domenicali, CEO of Formula 1, and Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google.
