Casa Mediterráneo welcomed the visit of Pilar Cancela, Secretary of State for Migration of the Government of Spain. Upon her arrival at the headquarters, located in the old Benalúa station, she was received by the Director General of the institution, Andrés Perelló, and the Deputy Government Delegate in Alicante, Juan Antonio Nieves.

During her tour, Cancela was able to learn firsthand about some of the initiatives promoted by Casa Mediterráneo concerning migration movements, one of the major challenges facing the Mediterranean region. The Secretary of State expressed her interest in the projects developed by this institution to foster mutual understanding, intercultural dialogue, and cooperation between the two shores of the Mediterranean.

In the context of this visit, Pilar Cancela confirmed the support of her State Secretariat for the Migration Forum that Casa Mediterráneo is organizing for mid-September. She also announced her participation in the inaugural session of this meeting, which aims to bring together experts from the Western Mediterranean to share issues, management approaches, and best practices in migration matters.

The visit highlighted the importance of continuing to work together from public institutions to address migration challenges in a humane and coordinated manner, with special attention to respecting human rights and promoting coexistence.
