Professor Elsa López Pintor from the Miguel Hernández University of Elche (UMH) and a member of the Global Health Research Group has been inducted as a Full Member of the Academy of Pharmacy of the Valencian Community. This appointment acknowledges López Pintor's career and her contribution to the development of pharmacy and the visibility of the pharmacist's role in improving public health.
The ceremony took place at the Official College of Pharmacists of Valencia (Micof) and was presided over by the Academy's President, Gerardo Stübing, and Secretary, Facundo Pérez. The event was also attended by Domingo Orozco, Vice-Rector of Social Planning at UMH, as well as institutional representatives such as Juventino Jiménez, Vice-President of Micof; Andrés García, President of the Official College of Pharmacists of Alicante (COFA); and Ricardo Folgado, a member of MICOF. Numerous professionals from the pharmaceutical, academic, and healthcare sectors across the Valencian Community were also present.
Following the appointment, López Pintor delivered a lecture titled "Appearances Can Be Deceiving: Impact of Treatment Change on Patient Adherence and Experience with Medication." In her talk, she explored the clinical and emotional implications of medication changes, particularly for chronic and polymedicated patients, which was also available via videoconference.
Full Member Juan Selva Otaolaurruchi delivered the welcome speech, highlighting the new Academic's research and teaching career, as well as her commitment to training in Pharmaceutical Care and generating evidence for the continuous improvement of pharmaceutical practice.
UMH researcher López Pintor, who will occupy seat 27, thus becomes the second Full Member from the province of Alicante, a milestone that, according to Gerardo Stübing, marks a step towards more balanced representation.
Elsa López Pintor holds a degree in Pharmacy from the University of Navarra, a Master's in Pharmaceutical Care from the University of Granada, and a PhD in Pharmacy from UMH. She is currently a professor in the Department of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Technology at UMH and serves as the secretary of the Department of Engineering at UMH, to which the Department of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Technology is affiliated.
