Second boat arrives in the province of Alicante within 48 hours, this time on the coast of La Vila Joiosa, according to the Red Cross. Seven migrants were on the precarious vessel, including two minors, explained the humanitarian organization, all of them sub-Saharan males. They arrived in good health.
This is the second case this week. The previous one was last Wednesday, June 18, when Maritime Rescue intercepted a boat with 20 migrants on board in Alicante waters. The migrants themselves reported being adrift for 14 days and that five people had died during the journey.
The Red Cross has reactivated the Immediate Response Teams in Emergencies for Humanitarian Assistance to Immigrants on the Coast (ERIE AHIC).
Volunteers from the NGO have provided socio-sanitary support to the migrants who are being transferred to the Alicante port.
In the previous case, all these individuals were also young, four of them minors. On this occasion, they were in a state of extreme weakness, with dehydration, burns, wounds, and considerable disorientation in some cases. This necessitated at least two hospital transfers by Red Cross and SAMU ambulance.
