On Wednesday, June 18, the Sant Joan d'Alacant University Hospital will host the 8th ALS Symposium under the theme "ALS at Home," an initiative open to the public organized by the Alicante-Sant Joan d'Alacant Health Department in collaboration with the ADELA-CV association. The event will run from 11:00 AM to 1:45 PM and can also be followed live on YouTube.

The symposium will be moderated by Nuria Fernández, a rehabilitation specialist, and will feature professionals from various healthcare fields, as well as real-life testimonies that will bring the ALS experience closer to the public.

The inauguration will be led by Juan Antonio Marqués, the Health Department manager, and will be followed by several discussion panels. The first will address the legal and social aspects of the disease with contributions from Carmen López, president of the Department's Bioethics Committee, and Paula Pérez, social worker at ADELA-CV.

Subsequently, specialists in Pneumology and Nutrition, such as Paula Fernández, Violeta Esteban, and Dr. Carmen Ballesta (Fisabio Foundation), will discuss key clinical aspects for the care of people with ALS.

The third part of the symposium will focus on continuous care, support, and personal testimonies. Participants will include José Antonio Valera, a primary care physician, Mar Luri, a complex case management nurse, as well as caregivers Yxis Gutiérrez and Paco Pedrera, who will share their experiences in caring for people with ALS. The event will conclude at 1:45 PM with remarks from Norma Iranzo, the hospital's medical director.
