The National Police have arrested a fugitive in Alicante who is wanted by Russian authorities for alleged fraud. The international criminal is accused of forging documents to acquire three public lands in Leningrad valued at up to 28 million rubles (300,000 euros).

According to security sources, officers from the Alicante Provincial Police Station were informed by Interpol about the possible location of a Russian fugitive in the city. The 52-year-old man was involved in several crimes, including fraud.

According to Kremlin authorities, the fugitive was part of a well-organised group acting with commercial intent. The gang planned to seize three state-owned lands located in the Vsevolozhskiy district, Leningrad, 24 kilometres from St. Petersburg.

To achieve this, the individual forged documents to deceive the relevant authorities, who registered the lands in his name. These lands belonged to the local city administration and were valued at over 28 million rubles.

National Police officers conducted the necessary investigations that led to the location and subsequent arrest of the 52-year-old fugitive, who faces up to three charges carrying a total sentence of up to 10 years in prison.
