The Royal Club of Regattas to Remain in Alicante Port Until 2048

The Royal Club of Regattas of Alicante will remain in the city's port until 2048. This decision was made by the Port Authority on Thursday, responding to the request of the club's board of directors, who sought to extend the concession they have held since 1997 to remain in the Alicante dock and manage the building, including the restaurant and moorings.

The president of the Royal Club of Regattas of Alicante (RCRA), Miguel López, stated that "it is great news for an entity founded in 1889 and closely linked to the sporting, social, economic, and cultural life of Alicante."

For the leader, the extension of the concession is "a success" and he assures that it will benefit "all the athletes of our club, as well as the members and all the citizens of Alicante." An extension achieved partly due to the improvement works carried out in the facilities.

In 2017, the Port Authority agreed to extend the term for almost 12 years, with an end date of 2039. However, the new agreement will allow it until 2048, the maximum permitted term of 50 years. That said, if the club makes a significant investment, the concession may be extended further.

The Port Authority itself recognises in its agreement the Club of Regattas as an "emblematic institution in the social, sporting, and cultural life of Alicante," which has particularly demonstrated its commitment to the development of the port and nautical-sporting activities. The Board of Directors also highlights its direct impact on generating new revenue, derived from the increase in new members, the incorporation of new sporting and recreational activities, the increase in preferential mooring assignments, and the optimisation of port space usage.
