The midfielder Rodri Hernández was operated on this Friday in Madrid for the significant ligament injury in his right knee that occurred in the Premier League match against Arsenal last weekend and which Manchester City confirmed after the Spanish international consulted several specialists.

Although it was initially thought that the injury was not so severe, as the knee was quite stable when performing the typical drawer test and the ultrasound did not clearly show the injury, the next day's MRI revealed a possible cruciate ligament rupture, although the 'Sky Blues' have not been very specific about the diagnosis.

With his club's permission, Rodri decided to travel to Spain to get opinions from several doctors before undergoing surgery and starting the long and tough recovery process. Traumatologist Manuel Leyes, a knee specialist, was in charge of performing the surgical intervention. He is the same one who operated on Courtois and Militao from Real Madrid for their cruciate ligament ruptures or Carolina Marín after she tore her ligament in the badminton semifinals at the Paris Olympics.

The City probes Wharton

Although there had been speculation that Dr. Cugat, who usually treats Barça and also City players, would perform the operation, Rodri has placed his trust in Leyes to recover in the best possible way. He will be out for several months, likely until the end of the season, although it is not ruled out that he could make it to the 'Final Four' of the Nations League if Spain qualifies.

Meanwhile, Pep Guardiola, City's coach, is focused on finding a quick solution and has set his sights on Adam Wharton, a young prospect from Crystal Palace, as a possible replacement to fill the gap left by the Spanish midfielder. Wharton has been one of the revelations in the Premier League since joining Crystal Palace from Blackburn Rovers. His price is around 60 million euros.
