The relationship between Nico Fernández and Elche is set to experience an intense summer filled with uncertainty. Despite having two years left on his contract with Bragarnik's club, his stellar season has attracted the attention of major teams.
One of these teams is River Plate, which, according to several Argentine media reports, has set its sights on the Buenos Aires playmaker.
The messages from the owner and the player himself during Elche's long celebrations for their promotion to the First Division have been consistent: staying with the Martínez Valero team.
However, Bragarnik has never hidden the fact that no one is indispensable and that football is a business. In January, Elche turned down an offer of nearly 10 million euros for Nico Fernández at the close of the transfer market.
This summer, however, with the promotion and the player's excellent end to the season, nurtured at San Lorenzo de Almagro, the figures could increase, and the player might leave the Elche club.
His quality, his ability to unsettle opponents, and his six goals and eight assists in the year of Elche's promotion to the First Division have put Nico Fernández on the radar of many top-level teams.
He will undoubtedly be one of the key names in the coming weeks, and Eder Sarabia, the coach renewed until 2027, will have to wait several weeks to find out if his first season in the First Division will include the talented Argentine player.
