La Vila Joiosa

With their hearts in their throats, 16 people await the outcome of the evaluation that municipal technicians in La Vila Joiosa are conducting on the condition of the building they lived in until last Saturday. The final decision will determine whether reinforcing the structure will make it safe to return home or if the building must be demolished.
The ordeal began last Saturday when the residents of the old building alerted the local police due to concerns about the building's integrity, which houses ten apartments, and consequently, their safety.
Upon receiving the alert, officers ordered the immediate evacuation of the residential building. Since then, the La Vila Joiosa council has been supporting those affected, providing accommodation for three individuals in a local hostel. Two of these individuals have since found alternative housing, while a third, an elderly man living alone, remains at the hostel. In all cases, the council has covered the accommodation costs.
Regarding the building's future, municipal technicians have already reinforced the structure. These complex and hazardous tasks could extend throughout the week. Subsequently, the building's condition will be assessed to determine whether it can be rehabilitated or if demolition is unavoidable.
According to authorities, the building's rehabilitation is the responsibility of the homeowners' association, who are legally obliged to make decisions regarding the building's restoration or renewal. However, until the situation is clarified, the apartments will remain evacuated as a precaution, and residents will not be allowed to return until technicians certify that safety is assured.
