Professor and researcher from the Nutrition and Bromatology Area at Miguel Hernández University of Elche (UMH), Néstor Vicente Salar, has participated as a sports nutrition advisor for the world's top Argentine tennis players during the Mutua Madrid Open tournament. This collaboration results from research transfer contracts that UMH has with Argentine tennis players Francisco Cerúndolo, Tomás Etcheverry, Mariano Navone, and Juan Manuel Cerúndolo.

During the tournament, won this Sunday by Casper Ruud, the UMH professor conducted nutritional monitoring in the pre-, intra-, and post-match phases to ensure that the strategies were appropriate in terms of nutrition, as well as body composition measurements to monitor the physical evolution of the players from the start of the season. As a result of this work, the tennis players have achieved remarkable sports performance, according to UMH.

Francisco Cerúndolo's Best Start

Francisco Cerúndolo has had the best start of his career, reaching the quarter-finals in Indian Wells and Miami. In Madrid, he defeated the world number 2, Alexander Zverev, in the round of 16. Additionally, he won in the quarter-finals and qualified for the second time in his professional career for a semi-final in a Masters 1000, at the Mutua Open in Madrid.

Finally, Cerúndolo reached the semi-finals, which allowed him to enter the ATP Top 20 and achieve the best ranking of his career. Meanwhile, Juan Manuel Cerúndolo managed to enter the main draw in Madrid from the qualifiers and delivered a notable performance by reaching the third round.

Similarly, Mariano Navone had a great tournament against Ben Shelton, where he almost advanced to the next round, and Tomás Etcheverry is displaying excellent tennis, allowing him to reach the second round where he faced Lorenzo Musetti, according to sources from the academic institution in Elche.

In addition to his role as a researcher, Néstor Vicente Salar is the executive director of the spin-off Nutrievidence SND at the UMH Scientific Park. This company is dedicated to providing health services in the field of dietetics and human nutrition through planning, education, prevention, and training in the areas of food, dietetics, nutrition, and health. It is also focused on providing advisory and research services to companies and entities in the sector.
