The Civil Guard has rescued a Griffon vulture that was trapped in an empty pool on a property in Ibi. The bird, which was disoriented and showed signs of weakness, has been transferred to the Santa Faz Wildlife Recovery Centre, where veterinarians will conduct an assessment.
The alert was raised by the property owner. It was his son who found the animal on one of the pool toys, which was in just five centimetres of water. A Seprona patrol quickly arrived at the scene, and after assessing the situation and equipping themselves, they rescued the animal, minimising its stress and avoiding possible injuries.
According to the Civil Guard, the vulture, with a notable wingspan, was healthy, although officers suspect it may have become disoriented and suffered a shock after accidentally falling while flying in the area. After its rescue, the animal was taken to Santa Faz, where a complete evaluation is being conducted to determine its progress and future reintroduction.
The Griffon vulture is a species included in the list of wildlife under special protection. Although it is not classified as a threatened species, its ecological role as a scavenger is crucial for the ecosystem's balance.
The Civil Guard reminds that if you find injured, disoriented, or compromised wildlife, it should not be handled by individuals. It is essential to contact specialised professionals like Seprona to ensure the safety of both the animal and people.
