Vox's municipal group in Alicante City Council will bring to the upcoming January plenary session a request to allocate a specific area in the city's municipal cemetery for the burial of babies who died before birth or during delivery. The party's spokesperson, Carmen Robledillo, is thus advancing the proposal of Santiago Abascal's party at the municipal level, which is part of "pro-life policies, such as the recently launched Maternity Office, proposed by VOX and accepted by the Popular Party in the 2024 budget negotiations," explained the councillor.

"Alicante parents who have lost their children before birth need a dignified burial and resting place to best cope with gestational and perinatal grief, something that must be considered as we are talking about people, regardless of whether birth has occurred or not," highlighted the leader. The councillor argued the proposal aims to "help alleviate the suffering and pain of those parents, facilitating the mourning process for families who have lost their baby, helping to strengthen the bond between families and their unborn or stillborn children."

Furthermore, the party has deemed it "important" that the City Council, the administration closest to the citizens, contributes to "ensuring the dignity of babies and their families because the defence of life and human dignity should be the most important values to be upheld by public authorities."

Robledillo further insisted that "the unborn human is not surgical waste and, therefore, their remains cannot be treated as such." The spokesperson refers to the Constitutional Court's doctrine, which through a ruling on an appeal for protection, determines that there is no longer a distinction between whether the baby is more or less than 180 days old or weighs more or less than 500 grams.

Vox has also reiterated its commitment to "defending the values of absolute respect for life and human dignity, as life begins from conception." They also consider it "just to respond to the needs of families who wish to use such a fundamental public service to overcome the greatest trauma a parent can suffer, the death of a child."

Robledillo explained that this cemetery space can "greatly" help those who have gone through or are going through the process of loss. "This measure is already being implemented in other municipalities such as Seville, where our colleagues' proposal received the support of the Popular Party, even with abstentions from PSOE and IU-Podemos, so we hope the municipal government team will begin work as soon as possible to provide the essential support families need," concluded the spokesperson.
