Rent Increase for Alicante's Giant Nativity Scene: Contract for Christmas Figures Extended

Alicante is already preparing for Christmas. During the city's major festival month, June with the Bonfires, the City Council has put out to tender the new contract to maintain and assemble the giant nativity scene - which holds the Guinness World Record for the largest in the world - as well as the six monumental angels that will be distributed across avenues and neighbourhoods.

The municipal intention is to maintain these attractions - which add tourist appeal to the city of Alicante during Christmas - until the next decade, with an initial contract of two years (2026 and 2027) that includes the possibility of extension until 2029.

This time, the Alicante City Council has increased the amount allocated to the different lots - there are three, one for lighting and sound, another for the giant nativity scene, and the last for the Christmas angels - with a base tender price of 212,809.92 euros excluding VAT.

This budget is allocated to the services of assembly, disassembly, transport, storage, maintenance, and restoration of the monumental nativity scene and angels, as well as lighting, sound, and the inaugural show for the years 2026 and 2027.

In the case of the giant nativity scene - lot 2 - the base tender price has been increased by 5%, from 100,000 euros in the last contract to 105,000.01 euros for its custody, preparation, and assembly over the next two years.

This contract will be prepared for the coming year, with 21,000 euros to maintain the nativity scene for the rest of the year - from its disassembly on January 8th. The amount is further detailed with 52,500 euros for 2027 and 31,500 euros for 2028 (before a possible extension with the same prices).

The custody dates for the six figures of the giant nativity scene are from January 16th to November 14th, 2026, as well as the following year; while the assembly dates are from November 15th, 2026, to January 7th, 2027, the same as in the consecutive year. The packing dates will be from January 7th to 15th, 2027, and from January 7th to 15th, 2028.

Meanwhile, the contracting of these services to maintain and plant the guardian angels of Alicante's Christmas - lot 3 - has increased by 27% compared to the previous one, rising from 36,500 euros to 49,999.99 euros for the next two years.

In this regard, the price of this lot is divided into 10,000 euros for the 2026 fiscal year, 24,999 euros for 2027, and 14,999 euros to execute these services in 2028 before the possible extension.

The dates for storage, restoration, and maintenance of the six angels are from January 16th to November 14th, 2026, as well as the following year; while the assembly dates are from November 15th, 2026, to January 7th, 2027, the same as in the consecutive year. The packing dates will be from January 7th to 15th, 2027, and from January 7th to 15th, 2028.

The inaugural show - lot 1 - has also seen an increase in contract price, from 100,000 euros to 102,500.01 euros for the next two years.

This section of the contract includes the organisation and celebration of the inaugural show of the nativity scene during 2026 and 2027, as well as the lighting of the six figures: Saint Joseph, the Virgin Mary, Baby Jesus, and the three wise men.

The inaugural day will be held on the date determined by the City Council and will feature dancers, singers, and instrumentalists, while the ornamental lighting must be operational from December 1st to January 7th, both for 2026 and 2027.
