Renfe announced early Tuesday morning the partial recovery of AVE train services and also Cercanías following the power outage that affected almost all of Spain on Monday. Specifically, the high-speed services that "will resume their operations from the start of the service" as previously planned are the lines connecting Madrid with Barcelona, Valencia/Murcia/Alicante, the Basque Country, and finally, Algeciras.
In the case of routes between the Spanish capital and Seville, on one hand, and with Pamplona, on the other, they will operate "with alterations or reduced services." The rest of the AVE services that were scheduled days ago are "suspended until further notice."
Regarding the Cercanías lines, the public operator only plans to fully restore normality from early morning in Asturias and Cantabria. Likewise, in Madrid, Catalonia, and the Valencian Community, it is only expected to provide between 50% and 60% of the usual service. In the rest of the peninsular territories, Cercanías services are "suspended until further notice."
However, Renfe also indicates that services "will be gradually restored throughout the day depending on the recovery of the power supply." Affected passengers can request refunds and changes at no cost through the company's sales channels, which will update information on its official channels and social media.
