The used car market in Spain continues its upward trend, recording a significant increase in prices during February. The average price of a used vehicle has seen an annual growth of +6.22%.

This sustained increase consolidates the upward trend observed in recent months, with a record rise of +6.84% at the beginning of 2025. In fact, February marks the third largest increase in the last 12 months, only surpassed by the one recorded in April last year.

With this new rise, the average offer price of a second-hand vehicle in Spain stands at 17,563 euros, representing an increase of +0.25% compared to the previous month, approximately 50 euros more, according to the latest monthly barometer from coches.net.

Sales of used cars increased by +3.9% in February, reaching 181,811 units. Once again, the most sold were those over 10 years old, specifically 101,855.

The 5 best-selling used models in Spain

The VW Golf once again leads the ranking of the best-selling second-hand models in Spain, with 11,636 units sold so far this year.

Focusing on brands, Peugeot sneaks into the top five best-sellers, even though none of its models appear in the top five positions. Specifically, it ranks third, just behind SEAT, which places two of its models at the top of the best-selling used models chart.

The price of used vehicles increased in February across all Spanish autonomous communities. All of them experienced increases, with the most notable cases being the Canary Islands, with a rise of +16%, maintaining the top spot from last month when it grew another spectacular +17%. Navarra follows, with an annual increase of +11%. These are the only ones with double-digit growth at the start of the year, as was also the case in January.

Other notable average offer price increases, although no longer double-digit, are in the Balearic Islands and Aragon (+9%), and Murcia (+8%). On the opposite side of the scale, the smallest increases in February were in regions like La Rioja (+2%), Cantabria (+3%), and the Basque Country (+3%).

Older cars see the most growth

With a total of 181,811 second-hand cars sold in Spain in February, according to data provided by Ideauto, sales have increased by +3.9% year-on-year. As usual, the most sold were diesel cars, which currently hold a market share of 50.8%, followed by petrol cars, which account for 37.6% of the total. Hybrids and electric vehicles now make up almost 12% of sales.

"Except for a slight drop in July last year, the used car market has experienced constant growth," says Marcel Blanes, institutional manager at coches.net. "This data reflects the peak moment this sector is experiencing in our country."

According to age criteria, the data confirms that second-hand cars over ten years old are by far the best sellers in Spain: 101,855 units, which accounts for more than half of the total (56%). On the other side of the scale, 11,708 nearly new vehicles (i.e., those less than 1 year old) were sold, thus capturing 6% of total used car sales in February.

By the age of the used vehicle, the February barometer from coches.net confirms that the price of the oldest used cars is the one that grows the most. Thus, vehicles over 20 years old have an average offer price of 5,508€, which is +10% compared to a year ago.

Those between 16 and 20 years old see an increase of +11.7%, setting their average price at 6,532 €. Cars aged 11 to 15 years have recorded an increase of +6.6%, setting their average price at 10,641€. And vehicles aged between 6 and 10 years have an average price of 18,277€ and an increase of +3.7% compared to the same period in 2024.

On the opposite side of the scale are the younger vehicles, with much more moderate offer price increases. In nearly new cars, less than a year old, the growth is imperceptible (+0.5%), the same percentage increase as in the 1 to 3-year range.

Used cars aged between 4 and 5 years have recorded an annual increase of 3%, setting the offer price at 24,354 €.
