A dangerous chase lasting nearly two hours with sharp turns, driving in the wrong direction, and reaching speeds of 140 km/h ended with the arrest of a reckless driver. These were tense moments experienced by El Campello's Local Police officers during an operation that began at 11 PM and concluded at 1 AM when they finally apprehended the driver.

The arrested individual was driving a Citroen Saxo that stood out due to its golden colour, rotating lights resembling those of the police, and the word 'polizei' painted all over. In fact, the vehicle lacked mandatory insurance and an MOT, prompting the officers to attempt a stop, which led to a chase involving sharp turns, numerous illegal manoeuvres, and very high speeds, reaching Busot where the driver was cornered and arrested.

At around 11 PM, a patrol of El Campello's Local Police, while on duty on San Bartolomé Street, spotted this vehicle and attempted to stop it, calling for backup. At the roundabout on Alcoi Avenue, another police car positioned itself in front of the suspect, signalling with lights to stop. It was at this moment that the vehicle fled, accelerating past the officer.

The chase continued along San Bartolomé Street towards Valencia, where the driver ran a red light, forcing vehicles to swerve and reaching speeds of 100 km/h. Once at the San Ramón Street roundabout, the driver turned in the wrong direction, taking it at 140 km/h.

Upon reaching El Vincle Avenue, the chase continued along the CV-777 road towards Busot. This is a two-way road without lights, which the driver used to his advantage by turning off the lights and speeding in the opposite lane to minimise the risk of curves. These actions posed "a significant risk to traffic," according to the officers involved.

Just before reaching Busot, the police accelerated to get ahead of the vehicle, but the driver swerved sharply, forcing the patrol to move towards the shoulder and part of the left side of the road. Sources close to the incident indicate that the manoeuvre showed "a total disregard" for the officers' lives, as failing to react quickly could have resulted in a severe accident.

Caught in Busot

It was in Busot where the officers finally caught up with him, but not before continuing the chase through the town's streets. The reckless driver ran red lights, yield signs, and stop signs, entering a residential area with narrow streets, sometimes driving in the wrong direction.

Upon reaching Limoners Street, the driver entered a dead-end dirt field but continued to flee across the field. Eventually, a Local Police patrol managed to intercept him, but another sharp swerve caused him to crash into the police car.

Once neutralised and seeing himself cornered, the fugitive exited the vehicle and began throwing punches and shoves at the officers, who proceeded to subdue, handcuff, and arrest him, overcoming his active resistance. The detainee was handed over to the Civil Guard barracks in El Campello, who in turn have brought him before the duty court. He is charged with the alleged crimes of serious disobedience, reckless driving, assaulting an officer, and resisting arrest.
