The resurgence of EBRO takes a step forward in its establishment in Spanish territory with the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) versions of its first two models, the s700 and the s800, both large SUVs. These models will feature a 1.5 TGDI DHE engine, Super Electric Hybrid DHT transmission, and a battery specifically designed for hybrid vehicles. They enter the market with prices starting at 41,990 euros for the s700 and 46,990 euros for the s800.

This system combines a thermal engine power level of 143 HP and an electric motor of 204 HP. This results in low consumption of 0.8 l/100 km in the WLTP combined cycle and 6 l/100 km with the battery fully discharged for the s700 PHEV; and 0.7 l/100 km in the combined cycle and 6 l/100 km for the EBRO s800 PHEV. In pure electric mode, it offers a range of up to 90 kilometres and over 1,100 with a full petrol tank and charged battery.

The Ebro plug-in hybrids can charge in direct current up to a power of 40 kW, allowing the battery to go from 30 to 80% capacity in just 19 minutes; if opting for alternating current charging, they can reach 6.6 kW, with the charging time extending to 3 hours and 15 minutes. They also offer the V2L bidirectional charging function, providing energy to external devices with up to 3.3 kW of power. The battery is equipped with a three-layer shield with anti-collision, fire prevention, and waterproofing features.

Inside, the high-resolution screen placed on the dashboard (integrated with the instrumentation in the s700 and separate in the s800) allows management of multiple functions such as infotainment system, navigation, connectivity, driving assistants, climate control, ambient lighting, or the 540º HD vision camera.

In terms of safety, it includes 24 driving assistance systems (operating with information collected by 17 cameras and sensors distributed throughout the vehicle) and up to 9 airbags equipped as standard in the s800 and 8 in the s700.

Externally, the Ebro PHEV models maintain the same proportions as the petrol versions, with lengths exceeding 5.5 meters and a width of 1.86 meters. The front features the octagonal grille of the EBRO family, but in the plug-in hybrid version, it is faired (with a specific mesh design for this version) to reduce air flow and thus improve aerodynamic efficiency against the wind to enhance consumption. The optical groups integrate LED daytime running lights.

The hybrid system allows acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.2 seconds for the s700 PHEV (9 seconds for the s800 PHEV) and a maximum speed of 180 km/h. This technology prioritises electric mode operation, and under most conditions, the vehicle is primarily powered by the electric motor. Energy management varies between HEV, EV, and EV+ depending on driving circumstances and needs.

On the road, both models perform impeccably on all types of routes, as we could verify on the roads of the Huesca pre-Pyrenees. Being large models, they find their comfort zone on highways, but contrary to what might seem, they show great agility on winding roads. This is aided by the fact that under strong acceleration demands, the EBRO s700 and s800 PHEV operate in parallel hybrid mode: the thermal engine and electric motor work together to propel the vehicle. At constant and high speeds on the motorway, the thermal engine is responsible for delivering power to the front wheels.
