Reasons for the Continued Rise in Motorcycle Sales

The motorcycle and light vehicle sector concluded March with a 7.6% increase compared to 2024, registering a total of 19,820 units, despite heavy rainfall which significantly impacts this market. In terms of daily registrations, last March saw a 2.7% growth compared to the previous year.

"The first quarter's figures are promising. Matching last year's numbers holds special significance because the Euro stage change on January 1 led to an exceptional clearance and a significant volume of self-registrations, which are now being sold as nearly new in the second-hand market, reducing new sales. In conclusion, we can affirm that the motorcycle and light vehicle market continues on a solid upward trend," explains José María Riaño, Secretary General of Anesdor.

The motorcycle market ended March with 17,677 registrations, a 9.3% increase compared to March 2024. By usage type, scooters grew by 10.1% (9,057 units), and road motorcycles also increased by 12.3% (8,264 units). Off-road motorcycles fell by 41.3% (343 units). By distribution channels, both the business and private channels closed positively with increases of 37.6% and 5.5% respectively, while the rental channel closed negatively at 20.9%. Cumulatively, motorcycles have grown by 0.6% (45,260 units), with scooters leading, accumulating a 6.4% increase.

Mopeds fell by 14.1% in March (712 units) with all distribution channels recording negative figures. By the end of the first quarter, mopeds have accumulated a 4.1% decline (2,495 units).

"With the arrival of spring, the high season for leisure and road motorcycles begins. It's time to enjoy riding, but always safely. Thoroughly check the vehicle if it has been idle, use good protective gear, and practice defensive driving. Recently, the DGT has launched voluntary safe driving courses, incentivised with points on the licence. Taking an advanced course is undoubtedly a great idea, as it is not only fun but also significantly improves driving skills," he adds.
