Real Madrid will host Celta de Vigo next week at the Santiago Bernabéu, while Barça will welcome Betis at the Estadio Olímpico Lluis Companys in two of the Copa del Rey Round of 16 ties. The draw held this Wednesday at the Luis Aragonés Hall in the City of Football in Las Rozas produced exciting matchups but avoided any explosive pairings, such as a classic between the two giants of Spanish football or a Madrid or Basque derby.
Atlético de Madrid, ten-time Copa del Rey champions, were drawn against Elche, a Segunda División team that caused an upset in the previous round by thrashing Las Palmas with great authority. However, they appear to be a favourable opponent for the Rojiblancos, who are on an extraordinary run of thirteen consecutive victories across all competitions.
Pontevedra, the only survivor from Segunda RFEF, will face Getafe, a tough opponent who will have to visit the Estadio de Pasarón to take on the team that knocked out the tournament's current runner-up. Meanwhile, Ourense, from Primera RFEF, will host Valencia at the Estadio de O Couto.
Matchups:
Pontevedra-Getafe
Ourense-Valencia
Almería-Leganés
Elche-Atlético de Madrid
Real Madrid-Celta
Barcelona-Betis
Real Sociedad-Rayo Vallecano
Athletic-Osasuna
