TRAM d'Alacant will facilitate early morning travel on May 1st, Santa Faz festival, to assist residents of the province in their journey to the capital to participate in the traditional pilgrimage to the famous monastery located eight kilometres from the town centre.
Specifically, the new frequencies of Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana launched on Line 3 (Luceros-El Campello) last February will allow thousands of Alicante residents from across the province to travel early in the morning to the city centre to partake in this festival.
Thus, from El Campello, one can travel to Alicante at 05:40, 05:50, 06:10, 06:20, 06:40, 06:45, and 06:50 with Line 3. Additionally, Line 1 (Luceros-Benidorm) will stop at El Campello, also heading to the capital, at 05:25, 05:55, and 06:25. Meanwhile, Line 2 will operate in double composition to increase the available seats.
Trains will depart every five, ten, or twenty minutes between 05:00 and 07:00 to facilitate this journey, which many people undertake using public transport to conserve energy for the subsequent pilgrimage.
Line 3 units will optionally stop at all stations and halts between El Campello and Luceros to pick up as many people as possible and transport them to the capital quickly and comfortably. The nearest station to the pilgrimage's starting point, the Co-Cathedral of San Nicolás de Bari, is the underground Mercado station. For the return journey, the closest Line 3 stations are Campo de Golf, Costa Blanca, and those located along the San Juan and Muchavista coastlines.
The return to the province's towns after the pilgrimage will be covered by the usual TRAM service, as the arrival in the capital is always staggered, unlike the outward journey, where all pilgrims walk together.
