Football rarely understands justice, but this time it has indeed rewarded Raúl Guti for all the hard work done in the shadows over the past year. The midfielder has returned to play with Elche almost ten months after injuring his knee, and now he has only one thing on his mind: enjoying football.
«I have a satisfaction that cannot be described with words. I went through a tough period, and to return with this support from the fans, with the team's victory... it's the most beautiful thing,» said the midfielder after making his season debut at the Martínez Valero against Burgos. Guti also expressed immense gratitude to his teammates, staff, and, of course, to the coach, Eder Sarabia: «The teammates have been there in good times and especially in the not-so-good ones; the coach, who has always trusted me; doctors, physios, rehabilitation specialists, the entire staff... Thanks to them for supporting me from the first minute, I am back.»
Raúl Guti also spoke about the importance of a good physical and mental recovery. «Since the injury, I tried to always think positively. Everything in life happens for a reason, and it was a moment in my life when I needed to recover my mind. During these months, I have regained the confidence I had lost in my life, and now I value everything much more,» the footballer states, who is very clear: «From now on, no one will stop me.»
For his part, Sarabia referred to Guti in the following terms after the match against Burgos: «Last week, I had a very interesting conversation with him. I told him it wasn't his issue but that I needed to dare to take that step. Not having competed even in a friendly sometimes makes you lean towards another player. His return is incredible news; every time he touches the ball, he brings us clarity. I told him to enjoy it, he is now one more for the cause.»
Guti's return is one of the most anticipated news by the franjiverde fans and the player himself after the grim twist of fate that awaited him. Last January, he decided to finish the season in Zaragoza, his home, and in his first minutes, he suffered a severe mishap that left him out of action until this past Sunday. Now it's time to enjoy.
