In response to the attacks, unity prevails. All LGTBI groups in Alicante gathered this Friday afternoon for a rally with several objectives. The foremost was to show support for Daniel, the 20-year-old who suffered a homophobic attack. "You are not alone," was the collective's unanimous chant. The National Police have already detained a minor for a hate crime.
The homophobic attack occurred last Monday when three men "mocked a person's sexual orientation," according to a statement from the National Police, and threw a bottle that struck his face, causing nasal bone fractures.
The video quickly went viral, aiding in locating the alleged perpetrator of the bottle attack. Nonetheless, the rally also served to denounce these homophobic attacks. Organisers have called for participation in the Pride march on July 19th. This protest takes on a more assertive stance against these attacks and the "regression of rights" policies that, they claim, are occurring within institutions.
