New car sales recorded 90,327 deliveries in February, marking an 11% growth compared to the same month in 2024. The market gained significant momentum in the second month of the year, partly due to increased registrations in areas affected by the DANA in Valencia, benefiting from the Reinicia Auto+ aid.
Specifically, 5,334 units were sold in these municipalities, a 400% increase compared to February last year. Without these sales, the market would have grown by 5.8% in the second month, a figure more in line with the market and still very positive.
In the first two months of the year, 162,443 sales have been recorded, an 8.4% increase over last year, but still 10% below pre-pandemic levels in 2020. In the first two months, 10,241 more cars were registered in the DANA-affected areas than in the same period in 2024.
Registrations of light commercial vehicles increased by 8.9% in February, with 13,996 units. For the year as a whole, 26,613 sales have been accumulated, a 10.9% increase. By channels in the month, self-employed and companies grew by 18.3% and 10.3%, respectively, while rental companies saw a 10.7% drop in sales.
In February, registrations of industrial vehicles, buses, coaches, and minibuses recorded a new decline with a 15.5% drop and 2,578 units. By vehicle type, both industrial and buses suffered declines in the month. Industrial vehicles fell by 15.5%, with 2,247 sales, and buses, coaches, and minibuses with 331 sales, recorded 15.8% less than the same month last year.
According to José López-Tafall, general director of ANFAC, "February was a very good month for electrification. It continued the positive trend of January, and the month's registrations reached 14% of the market share. But we cannot be complacent, as these first two months of 2025 reflect sales that occurred at the end of 2024 and are materialising now."
López-Tafall stated, "The positive trend of January and February is what we would like to have throughout the year, but for that, either a new aid plan with that retroactive character is launched, or we will experience a significant drop in the electrified market, as happened in Germany last year."
Sales of electrified vehicles (electric and plug-in hybrids, including cars, quadricycles, commercial and industrial vehicles, and buses) increased by 38.8% in February, with 13,971 sales, representing 13% of the market. In the first two months, a total of 25,327 sales have been recorded, 35.9% more than in 2024 and 13% of the market.
Regarding registrations of alternative vehicles (electrified, hybrids, and gas), they increased by 40.3% in the month, with 58,322 units sold, representing 54.46% of the market. For the year as a whole, they accumulate 105,743 sales, of which 7 out of 10 corresponded to a conventional hybrid.
Sales of pure electric vehicles increased by 54.2% in February, with 6,888 units registered. This represents 6.43% of the market share for the month. For the year as a whole, sales of these vehicles total 12,807 units, 51.8% more than in the same period last year. The accumulated market share for the year is 6.56%.
Plug-in hybrid sales grew by 26.5% during February, reaching 7,083 units registered. This represents 6.61% of the market share for the month. For the year as a whole, sales of these vehicles total 12,520 units, 22.8% more than in the same period last year. The accumulated market share for the year is 6.41%.
Sales of non-plug-in hybrid vehicles increased by 37.8% during February, reaching 39,878 units registered in this month. This represents 37.24% of the market share in February. In the accumulated year, sales of these vehicles total 72,718 units, 30.8% more than in the same period last year. The total market share for the year is 37.25%.
Sales of gas vehicles grew by 73.4% in February with 4,473 units registered, representing 4.18% of the market share for the month. For the year as a whole, sales of these vehicles total 7,698 units, 40.1% more than in the same period last year. The accumulated market share for the year is 3.94%.
The average CO2 emissions of cars sold in February have fallen again to 110.3 grams of CO2 per kilometre travelled, 5.3% lower than the average emissions of new cars sold in the same month of 2024. In the accumulated total for 2025, the average emissions stand at 111.1%, 4.5% less than in the first two months of 2024.
