À Punt Begins Holy Week with Elche's Palm Procession This Sunday

À Punt broadcasts the Palm Procession of Elche, a celebration held since 1371 and known internationally. Tens of thousands of Elche residents accompany the procession of Triumphant Jesus through the main streets of the city centre, carrying blessed white palms. With this Palm Sunday broadcast, the Valencian radio and television service marks the beginning of Holy Week.

Starting at 11 am, following the televised mass that airs every Sunday on À Punt, viewers can enjoy this celebration, declared an international tourist interest event since 1997. The main event is the Palm Procession, which highlights Elche for the faithful carrying the famous white palms crafted by the city's artisan families and sourced from the Elche Palm Grove.

This procession, celebrated on the first day of Holy Week, commemorates Christ's triumphant entry into Jerusalem and is one of the most renowned and admired events of the Valencian Community's Holy Week. The route begins at the Estación promenade and concludes at the Basilica of Santa María.

The procession's details will be brought to viewers by Ferran Cano, a journalist specialising in festivals, accompanied by Asun Berbegal, the 2023 Holy Week proclaimer of Elche and a Doctor of Anthropology from Miguel Hernández University.
