Construction has commenced on the first public housing promotion under the Generalitat Valenciana's Plan Vive, in collaboration with the Alicante City Council. The project is underway in the Rabasa neighbourhood to build 34 terraced houses (two of which are accessible) featuring high-quality finishes, significant energy consumption reduction, an interior garage, and communal spaces such as a sports court, rest area, and children's zone.

The homes will have a usable area of 90 square metres, priced significantly below market rates, starting at €580 per month, "with very high levels of quality and sustainability," stated Jeffrey Sújar, CEO of the construction company Urbania-Vivasal, during a site visit attended by the mayor, Luis Barcala, and the president of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón.

The project involves an investment of over €2.8 million, with construction expected to be completed within 24 months. The plot covers 4,987 square metres, with a usable area for housing of 3,955 square metres. Of these 34 new homes, 14 (40%) are reserved for young people and single-parent families.

Young Rent Bonus

The mayor of Alicante, Luis Barcala, also mentioned the launch of the Young Rent Bonus to facilitate emancipation. In the rehabilitation section, he highlighted the projects to renovate 288 homes in Virgen del Remedio and those carried out by the Generalitat in the Miguel Hernández neighbourhood. "The Municipal Housing Board manages 748 social housing units through its rental programmes and is a benchmark in our Community," remarked the mayor, emphasising that with initiatives like Rabasa, "this is how the problems affecting people are solved; not with announcements and smoke, as left-wing governments do in this Community and in Spain."

The mayor of Alicante, Luis Barcala, has highlighted that this initial project in Rabasa will continue with new promotions to build another 117 homes in the neighbourhood. The mayor recalled that the City Council is fully engaged in creating new neighbourhoods in Lomas de Garbinet, La Albufereta, and the future Central Park, where the construction of more than 3,400 flats is being promoted, "with a 40% reserve for public housing."

Furthermore, in the field of public promotion, the mayor highlighted the City Council's projects in social housing policy for young people in El Portón (15), San Gabriel (14), and the general social rental housing in San Blas (32), which are in the bidding phase for €3.5 million.
