PSPV-PSOE's General Secretary of Alicante Province, Rubén Alfaro, described this Monday as 'two lost years, marked by institutional paralysis, political clientelism, and a lack of a clear project for the province' the first part of the Popular Party's government term in the Provincial Council of Alicante, presided over by Toni Pérez.

Alfaro stated that 'Toni Pérez has turned the Provincial Council into an extension of the PP apparatus, more focused on distributing favours than on promoting a transformative agenda for our municipalities'. In this regard, he denounced that 'the provincial institution has been unable to lead economic recovery or provide solutions to the structural challenges of our territory'.

The socialist leader particularly lamented the setback in key policies for territorial cohesion, asserting that 'the paralysis in the execution of the Plan Planifica, which does not even reach 15%, and the cut in the Plan +Cerca, which has dropped from 30 million in 2024 to only 6.1 million this year, reflect a slow, ineffective management completely detached from the needs of the municipalities'.

Alfaro added that 'the government team has shown a worrying lack of budgetary foresight, failing to adapt to the new fiscal scenario and rejecting integration into the Generalitat's Municipal Cooperation Fund, depriving Alicante municipalities of a stable, fair, and transparent financing tool'.

In response to this situation, Alfaro announced that the Socialist Group in the Provincial Council will present a motion at the next plenary session. 'We demand the immediate convening of the Economic and Social Council during July, and the Debate on the State of the Province in September. These are essential spaces for rigorous debate, listening to social and economic agents, and redirecting political action towards the real problems of our towns and cities'.

The socialist leader emphasised that 'what we are asking for is not extraordinary, it is democratic common sense. In two years, Toni Pérez has not been able to open a single serious reflection space on the province's direction, and that is as serious as the budgetary neglect'.

Alfaro concluded by assuring that 'the socialists will continue to fulfil our commitment to oversee, propose, and build a useful, transparent alternative focused on improving people's lives in every corner of this province'.
