The Regional Executive of PSOE Aragón, chaired by former regional president Javier Lambán, unanimously agreed this Thursday to reject the fiscal agreement reached between ERC and PSC, as well as to support the non-legislative proposal presented by the socialist parliamentary group in the Cortes on this same issue.
The text was approved unanimously by the 29 members present after more than three hours of debate, without any alternative proposal being presented, according to socialist sources.
PSOE Aragón's Organization Secretary, Daría Villagrasa, stated before the meeting that the party has been defending equality and justice for "decades" in a system of regional financing that reflects the real cost of services and is "without any privileges."
With this initiative, the Party is kicking off a new political course in which they will continue to defend "the socialist alternative against the failed and disappointing government of Jorge Azcón" and sends the message that "PSOE Aragón is standing strong and ready for anything," following the collapse of the regional government this summer with VOX's exit.
Additionally, in a pre-meeting press conference, Villagrasa pledged the support of Aragonese socialists to the Government of Spain and to the Party, within the context of a "difficult" political situation. However, he admitted there are "debatable" elements and "different positions" on some issues, such as regional financing. This sentiment was echoed by regional leader Javier Lambán, who warned in an interview a few weeks ago that PSOE was becoming "blurred" and was on its way to worsening its "catastrophic" 2023 results.
The PSOE leader guaranteed political support to the Executive in a legislature where, despite the "noise," "discrepancies," or "artificial controversies," pensions have been increased for "those pensioners who have the least," the Minimum Interprofessional Wage has been raised, labor rights have been protected "with guarantees," and very beneficial actions have been developed in macroeconomic or foreign policy matters. Meanwhile, the PP has "denied bread and salt" and focused on "the worse, the better."
"We will continue to defend the Party and the Government," emphasized the Organization Secretary, adding that they will also maintain an "Aragonese profile."
Regarding VOX's threat to block the 2025 regional budgets due to the arrival of refugees in Mora de Rubielos (Teruel), Darío Villagrasa asserted that what PP needs to do to reach agreements with other political forces is to "turn the helm, change policies, and resemble Lambán's government much more."
In any case, he considered that "that uninterrupted relationship between VOX and PP will have to be resolved by them" and that, in any event, "whenever there are important issues, whether at national or regional levels, many things are said but they always end up voting together."
In this regard, he reiterated that it is PP who has "embraced VOX," governs alone with the largest budget in history, and has avoided "positions historically linked with normalcy such as development cooperation, immigration or equality among peoples."
Furthermore, the Regional Executive of PSOE adopted unanimously an agreement recognizing the political figure of former MEP and former Zaragoza City Council member Inés Ayala, who recently passed away.
