The Deputy of Architecture, Carmen Sellés, visited Santa Pola this Tuesday to inspect the rehabilitation works at Villa Adelaida, supported by the provincial institution with a contribution of 400,000 euros.

Together with the town's Mayor and Deputy of Social Welfare, Loreto Serrano, the provincial official toured the renovation, restoration, and rehabilitation of the Villa Adelaida building and gardens, a centre dedicated to fostering young talents. Both Sellés and Serrano described this initiative as a 'fundamental' project that will become a major centre for arts and culture in the municipality.

Designed by the renowned architect from Elche, Marceliano Coquillat Llofriu, Villa Adelaida was constructed in the early 20th century with a blend of modernist and colonial styles, making it one of the most recognised buildings in Santa Pola. The estate was declared a Site of Local Relevance (BRL) in 2009, and in 2012, Maribel López Pérez-Ojeda donated it to the Town Hall to transform it into a centre that would nurture young talent in fields such as art, science, and literature.

The project, funded by the Provincial Council with 80% of its total budget, included several phases of work. These included the improvement of the access road to the main building, as well as the renovation of the annex building's ground floor to provide a maintenance store, laundry, toilet, and private use patio, as well as public restrooms.

In the main building, work was carried out on the ground and first floors, including the adaptation of a new accessible main entrance, the repair and sealing of exterior carpentry, the adaptation of an accessible reception point, the renewal of lighting to LED type, and various protective and structural safety elements.

The museography of the recreation rooms of Maribel López Pérez-Ojeda's residence on the ground and first floors was also undertaken, along with other works for exhibition rooms or offices.
