The president of the Provincial Council of Alicante, Toni Pérez, has expressed his "respect" for the decision of Banco Sabadell to move its headquarters to Catalonia after seven years in Alicante. However, he has demanded that the entity "commit firmly to fair treatment for the province of Alicante and for our social and economic fabric," maintaining employment, offices, and available resources in this regard.
"It is not good news for the province of Alicante, and from the Provincial Council of Alicante, we respect the bank's decision to move its social headquarters to Catalonia, made in the exercise of its freedom," Pérez stated. Nevertheless, he has called for "a firm and careful commitment" to the province of Alicante.
In this regard, he pointed out that "our duty is to defend our territory, and therefore, we want to ensure that the employment generated by the entity in Alicante, the attention that the bank provides to consumers, small and medium-sized enterprises, and the entire business and social fabric, as well as the maintenance of the offices that Sabadell has in the province of Alicante, are absolutely guaranteed."
The president of the Provincial Council has recalled the "great contribution in heritage" that the province of Alicante made to this banking entity, as well as the high number of workers linked to it. "What we are going to do is meet the demand and be assertive so that the change of headquarters does not result in a reduction in services, resources, offices, and, of course, not in the conditions and job guarantees of all the people in the province of Alicante who are linked to Banco Sabadell," reiterated Toni Pérez.
