The Provincial Council of Alicante approved on Wednesday a credit modification of 8,128,498.50 euros from the current provincial budget to allocate resources to actions that lack funding or have insufficient funding with the "granting of nominative subsidies" to municipalities that have executed works "out of time." The operation was approved with 17 votes in favor and 12 abstentions, in an extraordinary plenary session held on Wednesday.

Of the total, about 6,820,000 euros were obtained from reductions in current account applications and 1,308,262 from the 2023 treasury surplus, according to the second vice president and finance deputy, María del Mar Sáez.

"This point has been brought to the plenary because it includes actions and operations that must be completed by December 31, 2024. Since 2020, municipalities, mostly due to external circumstances, have not been able to meet the deadlines set in the bases of some calls, either due to price increases or problems with tenders," added Sáez.

The vice president of the Council pointed out that "this situation cannot be extended any longer" to prevent municipalities from being "completely unprotected" in plans such as 'Closer 2020' or 'More Sport 2021'.

PSPV asks to "mind the manners"

The PSPV spokesperson, Vicente Arques, announced the abstention of the socialist group and criticized the provincial government team for holding the plenary "without having determined the point in a Finance Committee beforehand." "We have to mind the manners. It does not benefit you at all and it does not make our work easier," he added.

After Arques' intervention, Vice President Sáez responded that "the lack of a prior call" before the plenary takes into account "the urgency of the point" and justified it in the "exceptionality of the situation."

"The possibility of convening the Finance Committee before the plenary was considered, but in the end, it was not because the explanation was also going to be given in the session, as it happened. Anyway, I take your word. Since we started the legislature, the appropriate committees have been convened with sufficient notice and with all the documentation," concluded Sáez.
