The Alicante Provincial Council has allocated over 1.5 million euros for the construction of a bypass of the CV-728 through the municipality of El Ràfol d'Almúnia.
The project, completed a few months ago, has "significantly reduced" vehicle traffic through the town's urban centre, according to a statement from the provincial institution.
In this regard, the Roads Deputy, Arturo Poquet, stated that this action "puts an end to a historical problem in the municipality, as until now, all vehicles travelling to or from Pego, including heavy ones, had to pass through the town centre."
The works, which affected both the CV-728 and the CV-729—where it connects—have included the construction of a bypass at the northeastern edge of the urban area to "minimise vehicle passage and eliminate the current status of a thoroughfare."
According to Poquet, the project has also reduced noise and environmental pollution levels, as well as "improved functionality, road safety, and the quality of life for the town's residents."
The new bypass absorbs a large portion of the more than 1,300 vehicles that travel daily through the immediately preceding section of the CV-728, according to traffic counts.
Regarding the technical aspects of the project, the Provincial Council specified that the bypass section of the CV-728 connects with the Segaria road via a roundabout with a 46-metre outer diameter and continues to the intersection with the CV-729, which is also resolved with a roundabout of 55 metres in outer diameter.
