The Integrated Action Plan Alicante 2029 by the Alicante City Council includes ten initiatives to transform various parts of the city with an investment of 20 million euros. This will be submitted at the end of February to apply for European funding covering 60% from the Feder funds. Antonio Peral, the Councillor for Strategic Plans and European Projects, presented the plan's initiatives on Monday.
"This is the roadmap that will guide the strategy and actions to be carried out until 2029," Peral explained to the residents. The councillor highlighted that 80% of the initiatives are focused on the Northern Zone. The programme will be presented in the European EDIL call and can be developed until 2029.
Among the proposed initiatives is the adaptation of the López Soria school as a Proximity Centre; the adaptation of the old Secadero warehouse as a space for the Aterriza programme; the expansion of the El Tossalet Employment and Training Centre and the improvement of the Plaza de Argel Integrated Municipal Centre.

Additionally, it is planned to improve the Plaza de Argel Integrated Municipal Centre and construct a new Tómbola sports pavilion with sustainability criteria in building. A comprehensive renovation of Lo Morant park, and the complete renewal of the squares of Orán, Dolçainer Lluis Avellà, de la Constitución, and Palamó is also planned.
The Alicante City Council opens a new online public consultation until February 9, and a document with all detailed information has been prepared, which is public and available on the municipal website, https://www.alicante.es/es/contenidos/plan-actuacion-integrado-pai-alicante-2029. Those who wish to participate can contribute their initiatives, ideas, and opinions to each of the actions to enhance and improve the benefits that these initiatives will bring.
Moreover, Alicante Smart City will play a significant role in the Alicante 2029 project. European funding will enable pioneering projects like Symon, created to combat unwanted loneliness among the elderly through an intelligent monitoring system. Additionally, actions will continue to build a city of reference in artificial intelligence, offering opportunities for its citizens. Wifi will be installed throughout the PAI area.
"We are among the best cities in Spain in executing and managing European funds, which places us in an excellent position to apply for the PAI, which is the new EDUSI," highlighted Antonio Peral. "80% of these city projects will be executed in the Northern Zone, and with them, we will improve the social and elderly area, employment, accessibility, digitalisation, mobility, the environment, and urban regeneration to build our model of Alicante 2030 for everyone, more inclusive, green, social, and intelligent."
