Prince Andrew remains at the centre of ongoing tensions within the British royal family. Once again, he finds himself in the spotlight, having fallen from grace due to his close association with Jeffrey Epstein, the American financier accused of sexual offences, and his own accusations by Virginia Giuffre of sexual assault on three occasions when she was 17. The scandal led his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, to strip him of all military titles and royal patronages. Since then, the Duke of York has faced one of his most challenging periods, marked by family snubs and the threat of 'eviction'.

Last week, Prince Andrew was excluded from a gala dinner at Windsor Castle, organised by Princess Anne to celebrate the legacy of Gordonstoun School, where she serves as director. According to a statement from the school, the dinner was an intimate event with a limited number of guests, but the exclusion of the Duke of York, who resides just a few miles away at Royal Lodge, has been interpreted as a deliberate snub.

Sources close to the prince have expressed their dissatisfaction, noting that Andrew "would have loved to attend the dinner if he had been invited." Previously considered one of the prince's few allies within the royal family, Princess Anne appears to have distanced herself amidst the controversies surrounding her brother, including his links to a Chinese businessman who was revealed to be a spy, which also led to his exclusion from the Windsor family's Christmas celebrations.

This adds to the growing tension between the Duke of York and King Charles III. Since the latter ascended the throne, Andrew has lost privileges, including his annual financial allowance, increasing the pressure for him to leave Royal Lodge. The monarch believes that the prince, removed from his royal duties and surrounded by scandals, cannot financially justify his stay in the costly 30-room residence.

In an unexpected twist, Andrew has issued an ultimatum to his brother. British media have revealed that the duke has threatened to take the late Queen Elizabeth II's corgis if he is forced to leave his current residence. This move has been described by royal experts as a "low blow" that further exacerbates family tensions. "The Queen would turn in her grave if she knew Andrew was using her dogs as bargaining chips," commented a source close to the family.

Since his involvement in the Epstein case, Andrew has maintained a low profile, taking refuge at Royal Lodge with his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, with whom he shares a supportive relationship despite their divorce decades ago. The Christmas festivities passed without his presence, and his exclusion from the traditional Sandringham service highlighted his growing isolation within the family.

The British press has also reported on the prince's emotional deterioration, a concern for King Charles III. According to royal expert Jennie Bond, the monarch fears that further actions against him could severely impact his brother's mental health. "Charles does not want to worsen the situation. Although Andrew has fallen from grace, he remains his brother," Bond noted.

The debate over Andrew's place in the royal family remains intense. While some sectors of public opinion demand that the king completely sever ties with him, others advocate for a less drastic resolution.
