Purchasing a new vehicle in Spain is significantly more expensive today than before the pandemic. The average dealership price has increased by 38.1% in the first four months of 2025 compared to the same period in 2019, reaching €40,582, representing an increase of €11,190.
This rise almost doubles the inflation rate over the past six years, according to data from the National Association of Motor Vehicle Sellers, Repair and Spare Parts (Ganvam).
In the past year, prices have also seen a notable growth of 9.2%, rising from an average of €37,141 to the current figure. This price hike has directly impacted registrations, which by April 2025 total 377,889 units, 13.4% less than the 436,328 sold in the first four months of 2019.
The most popular vehicles are not exempt from this trend. In 2019, the average price of the ten best-selling models was around €20,000. Now, that figure has risen to €29,645, more than €10,000 difference. While in 2019 the Seat León (€21,627), Nissan Qashqai (€25,345), and Dacia Sandero (€9,640) led sales, currently the top 5 includes the Dacia Sandero (€15,317), MG ZS (€22,558), and Seat Ibiza (€21,350), followed by the Renault Captur (€25,807) and the Nissan Qashqai (€38,275). In brand analysis, most have seen an increase in the average price of their ranges since 2019. Brands like Smart (+156.96%), Dacia (+83.57%), Mercedes (+61.26%), and BMW (+58%) show the largest increases, often due to a change in positioning or a greater emphasis on electrification in their catalogs.
Economic uncertainty is not the only factor affecting registrations; the lack of affordable options has also contributed.
According to GANVAM's general director, Fernando Miguélez, "the positive performance of electrified vehicles is a trend that will continue to rise, driven by measures such as energy savings certificates, which, thanks to agreements between brands and energy companies, allow buyers of these electric models to benefit from purchase price discounts; discounts that are also compatible with other current incentives such as those from the Moves plan."
In 2019, the market offered 273 models, of which 104 (38%) were available for less than €17,731. Six years later, although the total number of models has slightly increased to 285, only 60 models (21%) are available for €23,774 or less, representing an increase of €6,043 in the most accessible segment.
Additionally, technological uncertainty adds another challenge. Currently, there are only 31 electrified models for sale in Spain priced at €23,774 or less; of these, 26 are mild gasoline hybrids and only five are purely electric.
