Vox is increasing pressure in the negotiation of the 'adjustment plan' that the Alicante government must present to the Ministry of Finance to comply with the spending rule. Mayor Luis Barcala needs the support of at least one opposition councillor to approve this document, and currently, his best option is Abascal's party. Other parties acknowledge they have not received any updates from the government on this matter.
However, the negotiations do not seem to be on track. Vox is holding firm: a reduction in IBI and the dismissal of Finance Councillor Toni Gallego. The party states that if both conditions are not met, they will not vote in favour. Additionally, they claim to be preparing a series of proposals to include in the negotiations.
Vox insists that maintaining the IBI reduction is essential, as it was a key aspect in the 2025 municipal budget negotiations. The party led by Carmen Robledillo explains that the government is working to fit this reduction within the budget adjustment.
However, this has not calmed the party, which continues to demand the resignation of Toni Gallego due to the 29 million euro overspend that the council must compensate for in 2025 and 2026. Their firm stance to approve this document is that the Finance Councillor should take responsibility and resign from his duties.
Revenue from the ORA will amount to 5.6 million euros, a 152% increase from 2024, and the tow service will generate nearly 2.2 million euros, with a 20% increase, according to the Socialist Municipal Group.
On the other hand, the Treasury's surplus of 155 million from the municipal coffers will be limited to debt amortisation and credit allocation for pending operations (OPAS), according to municipal sources.
