Vox MEP Jorge Buxadé announced on Friday that next week they will present a series of initiatives 'to defend the sector' before the European Parliament's Fisheries Committee. He stated this in a press release following a meeting with representatives of the Fishermen's Guild of La Vila Joiosa. Not only in the Strasbourg Chamber, but also party members in the Congress of Deputies, in Les Corts, in the Provincial Council, and the Alicante City Council will 'assist' in these actions.
In this regard, he affirmed that these initiatives are also intended 'to force other political parties to take a stand', and that 'the decision to reduce the days for trawling in the Mediterranean was a deliberate act against this sector in Europe'.

'The proof is their presentation on September 9 and the immediate approval by the Council without the Spanish Government having done anything. It was a deliberate act, without economic, social, or cultural reports justifying the need to protect the fishing sector,' he added.
Buxadé emphasized that this measure has had a 'brutal impact on hundreds of families in Spain, affected by this capricious decision of the Brussels elites'. In the same vein, after the meeting with the guild in this Alicante municipality, he considers that 'many' fishermen are 'on the brink of collapse'.
'This week we learned that these same elites were paying NGOs to, in turn, buy the will of politicians in Brussels to vote in favour of the Green Deal,' he added.
The Vox MEP maintained that his party 'will not let the fishing sector, agriculture, or livestock die': 'If others decide to sell out the fishing sector to benefit themselves as corrupt elites in Brussels, securing silence over Pedro Sánchez's corruption, we will not allow it.'
