The Preferred Destinations for Spaniards Travelling by Motorhome This Summer

Spaniards are choosing to holiday on wheels within their own country. The preferred pick-up stations clearly reflect this trend: Bilbao leads with 29% of national bookings, followed by Madrid with 21%. This points to a growing popularity of northern Spain, especially the Basque Country, Cantabria, and Asturias, as ideal summer destinations to explore by motorhome.

While in 2024, the cold destinations of northern Europe dominated bookings from June to August, now that trend has changed. This inclination towards domestic tourism not only responds to practical factors such as proximity, cost, or flexibility, but also "to a renewed interest in exploring lesser-known corners, connecting with nature, and enjoying a more sustainable and free experience," comments Adriana Neves, Marketing Manager at CamperDays. "The choice to travel by motorhome also allows avoiding crowds and continuing to enjoy the surroundings with comfort and autonomy," she adds.

Canada continues to lead as the most popular international destination for Spanish travellers opting for motorhomes, representing 23% of bookings made in Spain through CamperDays. It is followed by closer destinations like Italy and Spain, each sharing 12% of the bookings.

Additionally, new international destinations such as Botswana and Japan are emerging, which, although still representing a small part of the total bookings, indicate a growing interest in long-haul travel and enriching cultural experiences. These destinations were not recorded in previous years, indicating greater diversity and sophistication in the preferences of Spanish travellers.
